Multiplayer Quest Explained (How It Works)
Setting player count to 2 means that a max of 2 players can be in the hunt (aka you and one other person). The monster will only scale when a second person actually joins.
If you have it set to 4 people, and you are alone, you will have solo scaling. If one person joins, you will have two person scaling. If three people join you will have 4 player scaling.
Solo is easier.
Small thing to note is that active party size affects companions.
When you play alone you can have your cat with you and the potential for also a NPC ally cat and a monster tame to join your party and help you out.
The game calls these Trailriders.
You’ll find these in the various maps, it’s part of how you unlock new gadgets for your Palico.
But once you’ve befriended a faction they can be found on all maps randomly and always on the map you first encounter them on.. they will also teach your Palico how to tame specific wild monsters.
If you exchange guild cards with other players as well you can also find those players cat’s randomly on maps too and can recruit them like the faction cats.
Your party size is always capped at 4 and that will include Palico’s and Trailriders.
With a group of 2 players it’ll usually be 2 players and their Palico’s so you can’t recruit any Trailriders unless one player leaves their cat behind.
In groups of 3 or more players, no Palicos or Trailriders can be used at all.
- So there are perks to playing with different sized groups.
- Naturally players are going to be more competent battle companions.. most of the time at least lol
- But each player in the group will scale the monsters, where as Palico’s and Trailriders as far as I know do not.
But don’t knock the Palicos, they have a lot use tbh and are very well known for being total life savers at times.
Not just for coming in with a clutch heal or stunning the monster at the exact moment it was most needed but also randomly getting in the way of a hit that would otherwise have carted you or knocking you out of the way from a stunlocked hit etc.
They really do save your a** sometimes and it’s so satisfying to see it happen.
Trailriders too also do this at times so there’s good reason to go solo sometimes and enjoy playing with NPC’s over players.
